What Does the working group do?
The Mitigation Working Group (MWG) identifies and prioritizes action-oriented environmental security projects that can be executed in the field to reduce threats and advance preparation capacity of partner nations across the Indo-Pacific and Pacific Island regions. Past projects have included Oil Spill Response Workshops, Maritime Environmental Security Workshops, development of Environmental Sensitivity Indices for coastlines, solar panel installation and grid metering, and training in the use of vessel monitoring systems using satellite imagery to detect illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing activity.

Three-Year Plan Objectives (2022-2025)
- Improving the framework for how environmental security projects are developed and getting more of the projects funded
- Improving outreach methodology for increasing IPESP membership.
- Increasing funding for environmental security as well as improving the funding approval process.
What Does The Partnership Do?
The Partnership broadly conceptualizes environmental security as safeguarding against vulnerabilities induced by the abundance or scarcity of environmental assets and/or degradation. The Working Groups implement training and capacity building activities to improve the ability of partner nations to plan for and manage environmental security challenges.
